The tree grows in the temperate zones throughout Europe, in America, in India and in Far East.
Characteristics:
The sapwood and the heartwood are hardly distinguishable. The wood is nearly white or yellowish-white and gets yellowed under influence of air and light. Annual rings come forward, especially at quarter sawing, as fine stripes or shinning veins. The structure is homogeneous and short-fibrous; the texture is very fine and constant, typically diffuse-porous.
