Tutorial of any kind?

Tutorial of any kind?

Hi!

I was wondering if it there is any tutorial of any kind of how to create material using arroway textures? I am relatively new to C4D.
I was looking on web, but I did not find anything usefull.

I know that this exact question was asked many many times, but please...

Thanks.

Yes, this gets asked alot.

Yes, this gets asked alot. But this question is really two questions: "How do I create good CG materials?" and "How do I use software XYZ to create materials?".

For the second question I basically would recommend the following three places:

  • The softwares user manual/online help, of course, where many beginners questions have already been answered.
  • A good user board for your software, where you can find help to the specific quirks of the software you are using (e.g. http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=47)
  • A material resource site (e.g. http://www.c4dtextures.com/modules/rmdp/), where you can find ready-to-use materials. Such materials can be a good starting point to learn how to build you own materials from scratch.

The first question is not answered quite so easily. Creating a CG material essentially means immitating the physical world with the means software can provide. This is a very broad topic. Here an excellent introduction on what textures do and how to use them: http://www.leighvanderbyl.com/pdf/texturing.pdf. A very good resource for material design with lots of reference photos can be found here: http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/cg_education.htm.

As I said, this is a broad but very important topic and reading up on it is well worth the effort.
