Hello,
first - the general texture quality is impressiv great. I bought all. Only one thing I don't like - the wood textures of Volume One are not tileable. Are the Wood Volume Two textures tileable? If not, it could be nice if the collections could be retouched so that they are tileable and exist user can buy an update for a small fee.
Best-
Michael

Hi Michael,
the textures of our veneer collections are vertically tillable, but not horizontally. We did investigate the possibility of producing veneer textures that are tillable in grain direction, but ultimately decided against it. Here our reasoning:
In reality, veneers cannot be produced in arbitrary lengths. In fact, 3m is about as long as they get. If for your work your goal is to emulate reality, you have to think about such technical limitations. And although it might be convenient in some situations to not have to worry about the tiling seam of a texture, that is not a convenience which would be cheap to have. The additional effort which we would have had to put into making all veneer textures 2D-tilable is enormous. Production time would likely have been double, which would result in much higher product prices as well as longer release intervals.
Wouldn’t it be better not to have to think about a texture as a thing that necessarily ‘tiles’, but rather as a continuous material that is applied to virtual surfaces as one would in reality? That’s why we are focusing on surface area. Where once you were limited to wood textures the size of a sheet of paper, you now have 12 seamless square meters to work with.

So I will focus my clients to build practical correct models.
Most it's a problem if models show a design concept only and the producibility dosn't play a big part in the first concept.
Thank you for the detailed answer.

PS: Could be nice if arroway could add a tutorial section for subjects like this. I'm curious how to create perfect tileable textures.
Use a program like PhotoShop, compose the textures in touching or overlapping files in layers. Once you crop to the desired size, use the clone tool to sample a portion of one of the texture files and cover the seam. This can also be used to reproduce knot hole or other imperfections, use the lasso tool and set the feathering to 25+, then select a knot hole and about 3 inches around it. Copy and paste, which will create your new knot hole on a new layer. Move the new knot hole to the new position, and use the eraser tool, using a feathered brush, and erase the unwanted portion around the knot hole.

In the last months I thought about this restriction and I found, it's not a good restriction, because often at the real world are used printed wood textures instead real wood. For this need it could be good if the wood textures could be tileable in all directions. OK, the current collection is good for real wood materials, but without the limit it could be used for all needs. Nobody will miss the veneer cut, because creating a cut is easy (most done by the 3D model), but avoiding a visible veneer cut is a problem some times and cost a lot of texture editing work.
Is a texture collection planed that can be used for printed wood without cuts in the veneer like used by producer of printed wood material?
