Although our textures are built from photographic material, they are not simple photographs of surfaces and materials. Ther are up to 100 single photographs needed for every texture. All these pictures have to be stitched together to get one really high resolution image. Many further steps are necessary to remove perspective distortion, correct lighting and to eliminate the seams. Custom-built software is used to extract the extended map information (bump, specularity etc.). Finally every map is post-processed by hand. Usually, it takes more than a day and several gigabyte of data to complete one multi-layered texture.
We continuously work on new techniques to perfect our workflow and to maximize the quality of our products.
